Nestle is a name which almost everyone around the world would know as it has a brand presence in almost every country on the planet.  Nestle is based out of picturesque Switzerland and is also the world’s largest food company, operating in 189 countries and employing almost 3,40,00 people worldwide.  Over the years Nestle gave the world some beloved brands which have integrated into daily lifestyles like Maggi and Nescafe.  It is almost impossible to imagine life without a piping hot bowl of Maggi noodles in India.  This leading fast moving consumer goods (FMCG,) brand also has many more famous brands to its name.  We bring to you ten of the most famous and well known brands Nestle owns and operates.

1) Maggi

One of the most iconic brands in the world and especially in the middle Eastern and Asian countries, Maggi has truly integrated into the daily lifestyles of people from all socioeconomic classes in countries like India and Bangladesh.  Maggi is a brand which makes seasonings, soups and noodles which originated in Switzerland and was founded by Julius Maggi in 1897.  Nestle acquired Maggi in 1947 and has not looked back ever since.

2) Nescafe

Another of the iconic brands from the house of Nestle is Nescafe, which is an amalgamation of the words Nestle and cafe.  Nescafe is a brand of coffee which comes in both powders and ready to consume packaging.  The powders which come in multiple flavours just need to be mixed in hot water for consumption.  Nestle introduced Nescafe in 1938 although Nestle began developing the coffee brand in 1930, at the initiative of the Brazilian government, to help to preserve the substantial surplus of the annual Brazilian coffee harvest.

3) Milo

Milo is a popular chocolate malt drink which is made by Nestle and is extremely popular in Southeast Asian countries.  Most commonly sold as a powder in a green tin, often depicting various sporting activities, Milo is available as a premixed beverage in some countries and has been subsequently developed into a snack bar and breakfast cereal. 

4) Perrier

Perrier is a brand of mineral water bottled and sold by Nestle all over the world.  Perrier is best known for its naturally occurring carbonation, distinctive green bottle, and higher levels of carbonation than its peers.  Perrier was part of the Perrier Vittel Group SA, which became Nestlé Waters France, after the acquisition of the company by Nestlé in 1992.  It is interesting to note that The spring from which Perrier water is sourced is naturally carbonated.

5) Nestea

Nestea is a Swiss brand of iced tea and cold beverage solutions owned by Nestlé, manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company and distributed by Nestlé’s beverage department worldwide.  Nestea is a joint venture between The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé and competes with Lipton Ice Tea.

6) Kit kat

Kit Kat is another iconic chocolate brand which is known for its distinctive red packaging and wherein each bar or finger can be snapped from the chocolate.  Kit Kat was created by Rowntree and in June 1988 Nestle acquired Kit Kat through the purchase of Rowntree, giving Nestle global control over the brand,

7) Nestle milk chocolate

Nestle milk chocolate bar was made to compete with Hershey’s bar and Nestle claims the original milk chocolate formula was invented in 1875 by Henri Nestle.  It is quite easy to spot Nestle milk chocolate bars in supermarket aisles across India.

8) Cerelac

Cerelac is a brand of instant cereal made by Nestle and is promoted for infants 6 months and older as a supplement to breast milk when it is no longer the sole item in an infant’s diet.  Cerelac was developed by Henri Nestle to reduce infant mortality in the 1860s.  He invented Infant Cereals using existing nutritional science and technology and the first product was called Farine Lactée and is believed to have saved the life of a premature baby boy named Wanner.

9) Milky Bar

Another famous brand of chocolate owned by Nestle, Milkybar is a white chocolate which is sold worldwide and was developed in 1936.  According to Neste, Milkybar contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

10) Boost

Indians will have fond memories of this brand as Boost is a nutritional drink which is manufactured in the form of a powder which is to be mixed with milk and consumed.  Boost is marketed as an energy supplement drink for growing children.  Indians will have fond memories of Sachin Tendulkar saying “Boost is the secret of my energy” prompting millions of children to choose Boost over other competing brands.
