Jio Platforms, parent company of Reliance Jio telecom Limited might expand its network to locations out of India with lesser technological advance. It is planning to launch it’s self-developed 5G technology in areas such as West Asia, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia too after testing it in India.
For the manufacturing gears for 5G technology they are planning to partner with local manufacturers.
An executive said with the condition of anonymity “Electronic manufacturing needs to be done through specialised firms, whether it is Jio or any other provider. This will be done in India,”.
India has currently banned use of Chinese Telecom equipment to be used in the country, such as Huawei and ZTE for it’s 4G network infrastructure.
With the rise in geopolitical tension between India and China, India is looking to limit the use of Chinese products in the country, so it is more important for Jio in the given circumstances to manufacture the equipments needed for 5G technology launch to be produced in India. This production will also help take ‘Make in India’ initiative to a new level.
The executive also said that it would that time for Jio to shift to 5G directly as they are focusing more on the less technologically advanced markets at the moment.
Ashwinder Sethi, principal at Analysis Mason said, “The potential targets for Jio could be markets which will be slightly late in deploying 5G – countries in Middle East, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.”
