Gautam Adani is an Indian Industrialist and Philanthropist who founded Adani Group, a multinational company focused in port development and operations in India. He is the Chairman of Adani Group. As a Philanthropist, he runs the Adani Foundation with his wife, Priti Adani. He is the President of his philanthropic organization and it is prominently led by his wife. Forbes estimated the family's net worth to be around $25.2 billion, as of October 2020. India Today ranked him as the third most powerful person in India. As of 2019, he was the second richest man in India.

Gautam was born in Jain family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father, Shantilal was a textile businessman. He lived in the northern part of Gujarat, along with seven of his siblings, mother and father.
He is married to Priti Adani and the couple has a son named Karan Adani, who is the CEO of Adani Ports & SEZ Limited. In 1998, Gautam was once nobbled and released without accruing the money. He survived the 2008 Taj Hotel Mumbai attacks and escaped by hiding in the kitchen and toilet.

Gautam completed his formal education from Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya school, Ahmedabad. He then pursued a bachelor's degree in commerce from Gujarat University. He dropped out after completing the second year of his college.

Gautam took great interest in business but not in his father's textile business. He started working at a very early age. He was a diamond sorter at Mahendra Brothers in 1978. After working there for 2-3 years, he established his own diamond brokerage firm at Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai.
His elder brother, Mansukhbhai Adani invited him to manage the operations at his plastics unit in Ahmedabad. This business emanated Gautam towards global trading through polyvinyl chloride (PVC) imports. He eventually started importing primary polymers for small-scale industries in 1985.

Gautam won the largest solar bid the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for $6 billion in May 2020. The 800 MegaWatt photovoltaic power plant project was taken up by Adani Green Energy. It is an Indian renewable energy firm that operates one of the largest solar photovoltaic plants, Kamuthi Solar Power Project.

Gautam founded the Adani Foundation in 1996 and he serves as its President. The organization is funded through the Adani Group and operates in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Odisha.
He contributed Rs. 100 crore to the PM CARES FUND through the portal of Adani Group, to fight the Coronavirus crisis. He donated Rs. 5 crore to the Gujarat CM Relief Fund and Rs. 1 crore to the Maharashtra CM Relief Fund.
