On Friday: the DPIIT, Department of Promotion of Industry, and Internal Trade (1) announced the much-awaited State Startup Ranking. The rankings were based on the startup policy framework. They announced Gujarat and Andaman & Nicobar Islands as best performers while Karnataka and Kerala are top performers.

The framework recognize and evaluates the measures of states and UTs to build and support their startup ecosystem. There are seven pillars of the DPIIT startup ranking framework for 2019. It has 30 action points that access efforts in different sectors.

The government, led by PM Narendra Modi, announced the awards to transform India as one of the largest and most persuasive startup ecosystems globally. The flagship of Modi Sarkar to initiate the Startup India program has led to various policies to build a robust and growth-oriented environment for the startup ecosystem of India. The move will also generate lakhs of job opportunities in the country.
For the DPIIT award for 2020, there will a change in the rule. It will consider the size of the state for the State Startup Ranking. The vital addition will also focus on the implementation and efficiency of the policies for startups. In 2018, Gujarat had won the “best-performing State,” followed by Karnataka, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Kerala.
As per the DPIIT announcement, it has registered over 36K startups across several sectors. Interestingly, there is an entry of at least one startup from 586 out of 739 districts. Dr. Grurprasad Mohpatra, Secretary of DPIIT, stated that the nation has at least registered startups from all states and union territories. These startups have created over 4 lakh jobs.
