NEP 2020: How will it impact students?

The NEP 2020 (New Educational Policy) is both timely and progressive. It marks a historical development in the education system of India. It focuses on universalizing access from early childhood to higher education. The NEP 2020 integrates over two out-of-school crore children and makes an effort towards socio-economically disadvantaged groups.

The NEP 2020 will deliver early childhood care and education via erasing convention workflows and a new curriculum. The new educational policy also consists of pay-and-activity-based teaching and will reinforce the most critical aspects of learning (1).

NEP 2020 to Bring Out Quality School Education

We must realize that we live in the 21st century, and it needs 21st-century teachers. The NEP 2020 also focuses on respecting the teachers. A positive impact is created on teachers via a new education policy that is building their accountability. It includes a tenure track system and a periodic performance appraisal.

Furthermore, the NEP 2020 provides students ample opportunity to hone their skills and interests since there are provisions of multiple entry and exit in higher education. The new education policy has also dismantled the rigid differences between curricular and co-curricular subjects in school.

There is also a proposal to include vocational education from class 6 and onwards. Creating a National Committee for the Integration of Vocational Education (NCIVE) will minimize the social stigma of taking vocation as a career. Moreover, students will get more exposure to multiple career paths like entrepreneurship

The new education policy is taking a cluster-based approach. It includes developing school complexes, competencies assessment, National Testing Agency for universal entrance exams, and the integration of technology. These new education policy measures will go a long way to bring the desired improvement in the school education of India.

It is time for the government to open up the education sector for private investments to reduce the cost of education. As we advance, experts are expected to contribute more to ensure the practical implementation of path-breaking policy proposals.
