we hILO surveyed on COVID-19 impact on youth, the population is at risk for anxiety and depression (1). Over one-third of the young people are uncertain of their future from a career perspective due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organization stated that if the officials don’t take urgent actions, the adolescent may suffer severe and adverse impact due to COVID-19.
As per the survey report, 50% of young people globally are at risk of anxiety or depression. At the same time, 17% are affected due to the COVID-19 impact. It is worrying, especially when the mental being is already low in young men and women belonging in the age group of 18-24.
The report also stated that 38% of youth are uncertain of their future due to the Covid-19 crisis. Some expects that it would further creates obstacles in the labour market that would lengthen the school to work transition.
Youth whose education or work was disrupted or stopped are twice more likely to be affected than people whose education or employment is not changed. It indicates the link between mental health, academic success, and labor market integration.

As per the survey, youth belonging to low-income countries are more exposed to the working hour reduction. It further affected the results with their income. The pandemic is destroying the jobs of young people while also killing their education, says the Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General. He further added that the overall impact is affecting the mental well-being of youth.
Despite the setback, young people are continuing to mobilize and giving out their opinion on the crisis. A quarter of the youth have also done volunteering work during the pandemic, says the survey.
The ILO stated that we must ensure that we hear young people’ voices as part of COVID-19 impact. ILO further said that if we give youth a chance to add their needs and ideas while making decisions, it can improve the policies’ and programs’ effectiveness.
