IIT Delhi
The founders of many unicorn startups in India are graduates from IIT Delhi . The college gives immense support to its aspiring entrepreneurs. They have an entrepreneurship cell which helps out the students to materialise their fantastic ideas. The college also offers many brief courses on business. The startups which were founded by the alumni of IIT Delhi have raised a total of 480 million dollars in the first six months of 2020.
IIT Delhi has always been the leading college in this category. From 2017 to 2019, these startups were able to raise funding of 7483 million dollars. Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, the co-founders of Flipkart, were alumni of this college. The owner of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, had also graduated from IIT Delhi.
IIM Ahmedabad
This college has given birth to the owners of many top funded startups this year. The owner of MakeMyTrip, Deep Kalra and founder of Naukri.com, Sanjeev Bikchandani are graduates from IIM Ahmedabad. The college is not so far behind IIT Delhi with 462 million dollars raised in funding by their alumni. From the year 2017 to 2019, the startups led by graduates from IIM Ahmedabad were able to raise 2087 million dollars.
IIT Kharagpur
As of now, the alumni of IIT Kharagpur have launched around 635 startup businesses. Many of these companies have also grown to become one of the top funded startups in the country. The college has given rise to three unicorn startups, and Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google was also a student of IIT Kharagpur. It was also the alma mater for Rahul Jaimini, the founder of Google and Ramakrishna Adukuri, the founder of Stellapps (1). In the first half of 2020, the companies by alumni of IIT Kharagpur have raised 329 million dollars in funding.
IIM Calcutta
The alumni of IIM Calcutta has given rise to more than 380 companies in India. Out of these, six are unicorn startups. The college is quite famous for giving rise to the owners of many top funded startups in the country. From January 2020 to June 2020, the alumni have raised 328 million dollars as investments. Some of them are Pranay Chulet, Sumant Singa, Sriharsha Majety and Sam Santhosh who are the founders of Quikr, ReNew Power, Swiggy and MedGenome respectively.
IIT Bombay
For several years, IIT Bombay has given rise to the entrepreneurs who launched the top funded startups in the country. The alumni of IIT Bombay owns a total of 759 companies. More than 977 investors are currently finding them. These companies have been able to raise a total of 9.87 billion dollars as funding. From January 2020 to June 2020, these companies raised 310 million dollars. The owner of Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal, is a graduate of IIT Bombay.
IIM Bangalore
IIM Bangalore has always been enthusiastic about the startup ideas of their students since Bangalore is one of the leading technology hubs in India. The alumni of this college have founded 359 companies which comprise two unicorn startups. Many of them are also the top funded startups in the country. From January 2020 to June 2020, the entrepreneurs from IIM Bangalore have been able to raise 302 million dollars worth of funding. The CEO of Delhivery, Sahil Barua, is an alumnus of IIM Bangalore.
IIT Kanpur
In the first half of 2020, the startups by alumni of IIT Kanpur has raised 286 million dollars. The college has given rise to a total of 545 companies, some of which are the top funded startups in India. More than 719 investors have given total funding of 6.94 billion dollars to these companies. It also includes four unicorns startups with great popularity in India. One of the most successful entrepreneurs who were born out of this college is Mukesh Bansal, the founder of Myntra and cure.fit.
IIT Madras
The graduates from IIT Madras have become victorious in their interest areas and established more than 506 companies in India. These startups have raised around 245 million dollars in the first half of 2020. Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan of Junglee are graduates of IIT Madras.
BITS Pilani
For many years, all the top funded startups in the country have been the domain of graduates from IITs and IIMs. However, BITS Pilani has changed this trend with the immense support they give to their brilliant students. The startups by graduates from BITS Pilani have been able to raise 206 million dollars as funding in the first six months of this year. Anyone who aspires to be an entrepreneur can rely on the college for adequate resources. The alumni of BITS Pilani have launched many popular online ecommerce websites like Zivame and Swiggy.
IIT Roorkee
It is the oldest technical institution in the continent and has a reputation of supporting their students with excellent placements. The college has given rise to entrepreneurs who created around 347 companies which include the top funded startups in India. From January 2020 to June 2020, the alumni of IIT Roorkee has raised 185 million dollars as funding for their startups. Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar of Razorpay are graduates from IIT Roorkee.
