Technology major Accenture (1) most likely to cut around 25,000 people or at least 5% of its global workforce. The laying off is expected in India as well.
The Australian Financial Review initially reported the decision of Accenture. The citation is regarding a staff meeting led by Julie Sweet, chief executive, Accenture n mid-August.
The technology giant has employed 2 lakh people in India, making the country its employee hub. The global staff count of 5 lakh for Accenture. There is no comment on the development by the spokesperson of the Accenture India.
As per the review meeting, the company has laid off subcontractors and halted any fresh recruitment. However, the company still needs to cut its employees. Sweet said that performance metrics would be used to target staff to lay off of the firm. It is the first time in years that chargeability has dipped below 90%, she added.
Accenture to Focus on Its Cost Structure
The layoff at Accenture appeared to light after the reports hundreds of jobs cut off in the UK reported by the US media. Commenting on the UK’s releases, an Accenture spokesperson for India had briefly said that past this, the company is not intending unusual actions on global workforce actions.
On the questions of analysts regarding the layoffs in the March quarter, Sweet replied that the company had recognized some real areas when it comes to efficiencies. She further stated that people might view it as a layoff, but it focuses on its cost structure from the company’s point of view.
Notably, Accenture is not the only IT organization to have laid-off its workforce. Latterly, Nasdaq-listed IT services firm Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp, with more than 2 lakh employees in India, reportedly trimmed its thousands on the bench that were not actively involved in any project. IBM, too, has allegedly laid off approximately 2,000 workers globally.
