PM Narendra Modi Aatma Nirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge, launched a few weeks ago, invited the startup and tech community to create world-class ‘Made in India‘ apps and has received over 6940 entries across eight categories.
The objective of the challenge was to build a strong ecosystem for Indian apps, which has been supported by individuals from all over the country.
As reported by Business Today (1), the 6940 entries from across the nation include 3939 individual and 3001 entries from companies and organizations on 26th July, the closing date for the competition.
The main aim of the challenge is to identify the best Indian apps across eight categories including office productivity and work from home, social networking, e-learning, entertainment, health and wellness, business including agritech and fintech, news, and games, that are already available for use and scale them to world-class standards.
Potential to be part of the multi-trillion-dollar app economy
Of the 3939 proposals received from individuals, around 1757 applications are ready to use & the remaining 2182 are presently under development.
While for the 3001 entries submitted by organizations, 1742 apps had already been deployed, and the remaining 1259 are under development.
Of the total proposals submitted, 271 apps have already recorded more than 100k downloads and other 89 having recorded over 1 million downloads.
The Union Ministry of Electronics & IT stated that the proposals dropping in from every area of the country, including remote areas and small towns, prove that the talent exists in our country.
It is through the Aatma Nirbhar App Innovation Challenge that it has provided the right opportunity for Indian tech developers, entrepreneurs, and startups to build for India at a scale that is unparalleled to anywhere in the world.
The screening committees have already begun examining the apps on various parameters. The ministry said the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat App ecosystem has the potential to unlock value for the Indian tech startups and assist them in being a part of the multi-trillion-dollar app economy.
