1. Tiranga- The Indian National Flag
Tiranga, considered as the national flag of India and is also known as the tricolor, is the most famous national symbol of India. It has three colored stripes; the top has saffron signifying sacrifice and patriotism, with white as middle stripe signifying peace and truth with the Ashok Chakra in the middle and green as the lower stripe signifying life and prosperity. The flag shows the fundamental identity of India.
2. Jana Gana Mana- The Indian National Anthem
Like every classic country, India has its own National Anthem, which was written by the world-famous poet Rabindranath Tagore (1). This Anthem was initially written in Bengali but later was converted to Hindi for the use as National Anthem, which is of around 52 seconds long.
3. Vande Matram- The National Song
This song mainly describes India and its uniqueness from other countries. Bankim Chandra Chatterjee (2) composed this song, which touched the hearts of millions of Indians and is also translated into many languages and dialects.
4. The Indian Rupee- National Currency
Indian Rupee is the national currency of India, which is controlled by the RBI ( Reserve Bank of India) and maintains the flow of money in the country. This is the new symbol of currency made in 2010 and came into use & circulation by 2011.
5. The National Emblem
The most famous national symbol of India, its national emblem, consists of four Asiatic Lions with bull and horses and a Dharma Chakra at the center which is taken from Lion Capital of Ashok at Sarnath signifying courage, truth, power, and confidence.
6. The National Pledge
This pledge was formed by Pydimarri Venkata Subba Rao (3) and is recited by every Indian as an oath on Independence day and the Republic Day.
7. Saka Calendar- The National Calendar
The Saka Calendar is mainly used in India with the Vikram Samvat and is based on the signs of Tropical Zodiac.
8. The Ganges- The National River
The Ganges is the most sacred and essential river of India and plays most significance with Hindus, the prominent religion of India. The Ganges River is the longest and is home to an endangered specie of Ganges river Dolphins.
9. Indian Lotus: The National Flower
Indian lotus is considered as one of the most beautiful flowers and species of aquatic plants and is generally cultivated in ponds and gardens. The lotus has a massive significance in mythology and ancient India.
10. Mango- The National Fruit
India is home to more than 100 varieties of mangoes, which are loved by people worldwide. Mango is cultivated extensively in India and is also the most favorite fruit. They grow both in Wild and are also reared.
11. Indian Banyan Tree- The National Tree
The Indian Banyan tree is also considered as the crucial national symbol of India. It is on the list of the most towering trees of the world and is native to the Indian subcontinent only. Thimmamma Marrimanu, the Banyan tree located in Andra Pradesh, India, is considered the largest tree specimen in the world.
12. The Bengal Tiger- National Animal of India
Royal Bengal Tiger, regarded as the biggest cats of the world, is the national animal of India. India is the home to the largest population of Royal Bengal Tigers all over the world and tries to protect them to a great extent.
13. Indian Peacock- The National Bird
The Indian Peacock or the Peafowl is found in the drier states of India and is a resident breeder. It is best known for its long & beautiful feathers across the world and their dance before the rain.
14. Ganges River Dolphins- The National Aquatic Animal
It is also considered as the city animal of Ghuwati, India. This Dolphin is found in Ganges, Yamuna, Chambal, and Brahmaputra rivers of India.
15. King Cobra- The National Reptile
King Cobra, the endemic to India and Southeast Asia, is the sole member of its genus and is the world’s longest venomous snake with a maximum length of 18.8 ft. It is found in India to a large extent.
16. Indian Elephant- The National Heritage Animal
The Indian Elephant, one of India’s famous national symbols, is considered to be endangered and threatened by habitat loss. The Indian Elephant is native to mainland Asia and has much importance.
As these Animals, to a great extent, influence India’s culture, but some other flora and fauna are like Great Indian Bustard, Sarus Crane, Swans, Indian Eagles, etc. also change India’s rich history.
