Indian Railway has allowed e-catering services to resume in the trains from 8th June 2020. Recently, Indian Railways opened up its services with initial 103 pairs of trains commuting from one corner of the country to another. Significantly, among these trains, there are almost 37 pairs of trains running without pantry cars causing en-route food unavailability for the passengers having long-distance travel schedules. To counter this issue and bringing Railway's attention to e-catering deliveries; Mr Manish Chandra (CEO & Founder of RailRestro.com) has written to the Ministry of Railways and IRCTC official to allow the e-catering services in these trains.
After getting confirmation from the Ministry of Railways and Indian Railways e-catering, now RailRestro, an IRCTC-authorized online e-catering wing is all set to operate from Monday, 8th June 2020. On the question of safety and hygiene, Mr. Chandra adds that all the restaurants have been sent safety measurement guidelines for hygienic food preparation and Zero–contact food delivery in train to ensure the delivery of healthy and safe food on train.
Safety measurement followed by the Restaurant’s Staff
Mr Chandra says that “All the restaurant partners have been asked to ensure hygienic and contactless deliveries.” He added that the strict guidelines have been implemented for the food deliveries in the trains such as:
- Thermal screening of staff and delivery boys multiple times during the day
- Sanitization of kitchens daily at regular intervals
- Use of protective face masks or covers by restaurant staff in the kitchens
- Staff in the kitchens would be allowed to prepare food only if their body temperature is less than 99oF
Safety measurement followed by the Delivery Staff
- Delivery boys will be allowed to collect orders only after washing hands
- Use of ‘AarogyaSetu’ app is mandatory for delivery boys
- Contactless delivery to ensure zero human contact
- Always wearing protective face masks or covers is mandatory
- Sanitization of delivery bags after each delivery
RailRestro has affiliated with more than 8000 restaurants across the country to deliver healthy, hygienic, and fresh food services in trains. Till now, RailRestro has served more than 30 lakhs meals on the trains.
Mr Chandra added that “Due to lockdown, the e-catering industry has been affected for the last 2 months, as safety has been our priority. As the trains have started operating now and nationwide restaurants have been allowed to reopen by the government, then we need to focus on the e-catering in train too for the railway passengers who are travelling these days”.
RailRestro has always been very strict with healthy and hygienic food deliveries on the train and during this time they have been doing a lot of communication and conference with their restaurant partners to ensure zero contact food deliveries in the trains. Once RailRestro will be operational, the passengers will be able to easily order food online in trains without having any fear of contamination. Travellers can now rely on RailRestro for their en-route food availabilities as RailRestro team is working day and night to offer healthy, hygienic, and purely fresh food on the trains to Indian railway passengers.
In the initial phase, RailRestro is prepared to deliver food in trains at almost 100 railway stations of India including Bhopal Junction, Gorakhpur junction, Itarsi Junction, Bhusawal Junction and many more across the country. RailRestro is having its presence in more than 450 cities of India and serving at almost all the railway stations of India. Soon, the e-catering would be made available at all the railway stations of India across the country as the lockdown rules get relaxed in India.
More than 10,000 meals are being served through RailRestro App and more than 5000 people download it every day to order food in trains.
